Modules
Understand the key duties of a workplace first aider, including legal requirements under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations. Learn how to manage first-aid equipment, maintain accurate incident records, and prevent cross-infection.
Learn how to quickly and safely assess an emergency scene, manage risks to yourself and bystanders, and use the primary survey (DRABC) to structure your response and prioritise life-saving treatment.
Master the vital, hands-on skills required to perform chest compressions and rescue breaths on an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally.
Learn how to use an AED whilst providing effective chest compressions.
Discover how to care for an unconscious casualty who is breathing normally. This module covers airway management and the correct technique for placing a casualty into the recovery position.
Understand how to recognise various types of seizures, keep the casualty safe from physical injury during an episode, and provide supportive care once the seizure has ended.
Learn how to protect both yourself and the casualty by utilising personal protective equipment (PPE), practicing proper hand hygiene, and safely disposing of clinical waste.
Acquire practical skills to rapidly control severe external bleeding using direct pressure, wound packing, and appropriate sterile dressings to prevent critical blood loss.
Learn to recognise the early signs of clinical shock and suspected internal bleeding, and understand how to position, reassure, and comfort the casualty while awaiting emergency services.
Understand how to assess the severity of burns and scalds, cool the affected area safely using running water, and apply appropriate dressings to prevent infection.
Get practical, everyday guidance on treating common workplace mishaps, including small cuts, grazes, minor bruises, and splinters.
Learn how to spot the early warning signs of major medical emergencies, such as using the FAST test for strokes, and understand the immediate steps to take whilst waiting for an ambulance.
Demonstrate your newly acquired skills through a practical assessment and a simple multiple-choice paper to secure your HSE-compliant Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.
